Profil rédigé en anglais

Laurent Panifous, born 21 December 1976 in Foix (Ariège), is a French politician serving as Minister-Delegate to the Prime Minister, in charge of Relations with Parliament, in the government of Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu. He was first appointed to this post on 12 October 2025 (in the second Lecornu government) and retained it in the government reshuffle confirmed by decree of 26 February 2026. A trained director of health and social-care establishments (he ran EHPAD retirement homes in Ariège from 2000 to 2022), he holds a Master 2 in health law from the University of Toulouse. Locally he was mayor of Le Fossat from 2014 to 2022 and president of the communauté de communes Arize-Lèze from 2017 to 2022. A Socialist Party dissident who refused the 2022 NUPES alliance with La France Insoumise, he was elected deputy for Ariège's 2nd constituency in 2022 and re-elected in 2024. In February 2025 he was elected president of the LIOT group (Libertés, Indépendants, Outre-mer et Territoires) at the National Assembly. As a deputy he was notably co-rapporteur of the bill on the right to assisted dying (aide à mourir). His entry into a government he described as not sharing 'the ideas of Macronism' drew criticism from parts of the left.

Principaux textes législatifs

  • Proposition de loi relative à l'aide à mourir (right to assisted dying)

    End-of-life / health / bioethics2025

As a deputy, Panifous was a rapporteur (notably for articles 5 and 6) of the bill establishing a right to assisted dying, examined in the National Assembly in first reading in spring 2025. He co-signed the committee report with Stéphane Delautrette and Élise Leboucher (Social Affairs Committee, May 2025).

Portée : One of the most consequential bioethics texts of the legislature. Panifous described it as 'a text I believe is measured'. The Assembly adopted the bill, but the Senate rejected the assisted-dying component and a joint committee (CMP) failed, sending it back to the Assembly. As Minister for Relations with Parliament he later steered its return to the Assembly in 2026.
