  • Popular initiative for individual taxation (Volksinitiative 'Für eine zivilstandsunabhängige Individualbesteuerung' / 'Steuergerechtigkeits-Initiative')

    Popular initiative2021

Launched by the FDP Women on 8 March 2021, the initiative requires that every person be taxed individually regardless of civil status, abolishing the so-called 'marriage penalty'. The committee submitted around 113,000 signatures. Vincenz-Stauffacher was the driving figure; the dossier (with an indirect counter-proposal) was treated by Parliament and a federal popular vote on individual taxation was set for 8 March 2026.
