Andrej Babiš (born 2 September 1954 in Bratislava) is a Czech businessman and politician who has been Prime Minister of the Czech Republic since 9 December 2025, a post he previously held from December 2017 to December 2021. He built the Agrofert agricultural, food and chemicals group from 1993, founded the ANO movement in 2011 and has chaired it since 2012, and served as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance from 2014 to 2017; in 2024 ANO left Renew Europe and co-founded the Patriots for Europe alliance. ANO won the October 2025 Chamber of Deputies election with 34.51% of the vote and 80 of 200 seats, and Babiš formed a coalition with SPD and Motoristé sobě (108 seats); his cabinet was appointed on 15 December 2025, won a confidence vote on 15 January 2026 and survived opposition no-confidence motions on 4 February and 1 October 2026 (83 for, 94 against). His career has been accompanied by conflict-of-interest disputes over Agrofert, whose shares he transferred to the RSVP Trust in February 2026 (a step the European Commission considers insufficient), and by the Čapí hnízdo (Stork's Nest) EU-subsidy prosecution, in which he was twice acquitted at first instance before both acquittals were annulled; the case against him is suspended for the duration of his current mandate after the Chamber declined to lift his immunity in March 2026. He denies wrongdoing. Situation as of October 2026.
