The Centre's referendum against the federal law introducing individual taxation
2025-06-28
As party president, Bregy fronted The Centre's decision (28 June 2025) to join the SVP, EVP and EDU in a referendum against the federal law introducing individual taxation. It was the first time in the party's history that Die Mitte took part in a referendum. The Centre opposed the system change, arguing it would create new disadvantages and burdens for the middle class. Individual taxation was approved by voters on 8 March 2026 (about 54.3 percent Yes).
The Centre's 'Fairness Initiative' against the marriage penalty (Ja zu fairen Bundessteuern auch fuer Ehepaare)
Bregy is a leading proponent of The Centre's popular initiative for fair federal taxation of married couples, aimed at ending the so-called marriage penalty by maintaining joint taxation. After voters approved individual taxation in March 2026, Bregy announced the party would not withdraw the initiative.
